Selfish Sewing week – Day #1 – Ruby Octagon Dress

Hello Sewcialists,

I am officially in love with shift dresses and I can see myself wearing them all the time in the coming weeks. The best thing about the shift shape is tgat it is like a blank canvas and you can make your imagination come to life with so many sewing techniques.

I have also decided to do a selfish sewing week, and sew things for myself that I have been dreaming in my head for sometime. So from October 1st to the 7th I’ll be posting 7 makes for myself.

The first piece for the Selfish Sewing week is the Ruby Octagon Dress. One of my favorite colors is Red and I believe it’s ideal to start a challenge with one of your favorites.

Fabric – Red Stretch Satin from the stash

Pattern – New Look 6145

Trims – Invisible zipper and Octagon shaped border for embellishment (sourced from Colombo-SL)

Sewing Time – 4-5 hours + half hour to hand sew the border

There’s a saying that says “Red is the color of women daring to exist intensely” and I believe i’m one of them. Hope you all like my Ruby Octagon Dress. Until tomorrow when you can see my second piece for the selfish sewing week…

Love, Ludeé

  1. WOW! This is a really beautiful dress. I love wearing red as well – it is such an empowering, confident color! I’m attending a formal event this week + have a red outfit ready to go. 🙂 You’re very talented – I love how this came out! XO
